John Rand

John Rand (born November 19, 1871 in New Haven , Connecticut , † January 25, 1940 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

life and career

Long-time circus clown John Rand regularly took on minor supporting roles in Charlie Chaplin films between 1915 and 1936 . He was a permanent member of Chaplin's drama company and often played policemen, waiters or guests. He worked in four Chaplin feature films, including as a prop master in Der Zirkus (1928) and as a waiter in Modern Times . Rand also appeared in the films of other silent film comedians , for example, he played the boss of Buster Keaton and Roscoe Arbuckle in The Cook of 1918. In the sound film era, Rand only got smaller roles, but played in a few short film comedies in the 1930s Three stoges .

Rand played his last of around 85 film roles in the year he died as a farmer in the Buster Keaton comedy Nothing But Pleasure . He died in November 1940 at the age of 68.
