John Rawdon, 1st Earl of Moira

John Rawdon, 1st Earl of Moira (March 17, 1720 - June 20, 1793 ) was an Irish nobleman.

Life

He was the son and heir of Sir John Rawdon, 3rd Baronet , and his wife Dorothea Levinge. In 1724, at the age of three, he inherited his father's title of 4th Baronet , of Moira in the County of Down .

He studied at the University of Dublin and was elected a member ( Fellow ) of the Royal Society .

On April 9, 1750 he was raised in the Peerage of Ireland to Baron Rawdon , of Moira in the County of Down. On January 30, 1762, he was also awarded the title Earl of Moira , also in the Peerage of Ireland.

When he died in 1793, his eldest son by third marriage inherited his title of nobility.

Marriages and offspring

He was married three times.

His first marriage was on November 10, 1741, Lady Helena Perceval († 1746), daughter of John Perceval, 1st Earl of Egmont . With her he had two daughters:

In his second marriage he married on December 23, 1746 Hon. Anne Hill († 1751), daughter of Trevor Hill, 1st Viscount Hillsborough . The marriage remained childless.

His third marriage was on February 26, 1752, Elizabeth Hastings, 13th Baroness Hastings (1731-1808), daughter of Theophilus Hastings, 9th Earl of Huntingdon . With her he had three daughters and two sons:
