John S. Lewis

John S. Lewis (born June 27, 1941 in Trenton ) is an American astrophysicist .

Lewis was Professor of Planetary Science at the University of Arizona (Lunar and Planetary Laboratory). He also taught planetology and cosmochemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , and is an expert on the chemical composition of asteroids and comets .

In 1976 he was awarded the James B. Macelwane Medal .

John Lewis has been Chief Scientist at Deep Space Industries since 2013 . One of the company's goals is to mine in space .
