John Sanborn

John Sanborn (* 1954 in Copiague , Suffolk County ) is an American video artist .

life and work

Sanborn studied at Fordham University and New York University . He has received several awards, including from the National Endowment for the Arts , the Rockefeller Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts . He taught at numerous universities.

From 1976 to 1982, Sanborn worked with Kit Fitzgerald on experimental video works. In 1983, Sanborn and Mary Perillo started some television productions that were realized in collaboration with Twyla Tharp , Lee Breuer and David Van Tieghem . Sanborn worked with Dean Winkler on several projects.

Sanborn's videos are shown internationally. Among other things at the Whitney Biennial ; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; at the American Film Institute , Los Angeles; the International Film Festival in Berlin ; the Center Georges Pompidou , Paris; Institute of Contemporary Arts , London and the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián . Sanborn lives in California.
