John Sheahan (born May 19, 1939 in Dublin ) is an Irish folk musician . He plays the violin , mandolin , tin whistle , concertina and guitar .

Life

John Sheahan's father was stationed with the Garda Síochána (Irish Police Force) in Dublin. He attended the " Christian Brothers " school in Marino, where he received his first musical training and learned to play tin whistle.

From 1964 to 2012 Sheahan was an uninterrupted member of the Dubliners , who gave their last concert on December 31, 2012 after the death of the last founding member Barney McKenna . In addition, he also dealt with other styles of music, for example jazz or classical music . Sheahan composed some songs for the Dubliners, so "Marino Waltz" is one of his best known pieces since it was used commercially on Irish television.

In addition to the works with the Dubliners, Sheahan was involved in other albums, for example with the song "The Parting Glass" on the album Various - Music Of Ireland: Welcome Home.
