John Sheepshanks (born February 23, 1834 in London , † June 13, 1912 in Norwich ) was a British clergyman and Bishop of Norwich .

Life

Born the son of a pastor, Sheepshanks received his education at Coventry Grammar School . This is followed by a study completed at Christ's College of Cambridge University , where he in 1856 the Bachelor of Arts and in 1859 the Master of Arts was awarded. Ordained to deacon in 1857, he received the following year ordination . Between 1857 and 1859 he was the curate of St. Peter's Church in Leeds . He then became a pastor in New Westminster and chaplain to George Hills , Bishop of British Columbia . From 1868 to 1873 he was vicar in Bilton , Yorkshire and then in Liverpool . In 1893 he was made Bishop of Norwich. He resigned from this office in 1910. Sheepshanks married Margaret Ryott on April 26, 1870. He had seventeen children with her, including Richard Wilberforce's mother , Baron Wilberforce .
