John Stone (film producer)

John Stone , actually Saul Sturmwasser (born September 12, 1888 in New York City , New York , † June 3, 1961 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film producer and screenwriter .

Life

John Stone studied at New York University and then worked as a screenwriter for 20th Century Fox . Between 1922 and 1928 he wrote the screenplay for eleven Tom Mix - Western . He also adapted two of Zane Gray's novels for screen, The Assassin of Nevada, starring Gary Cooper and William Powell, and The Last Minute . In 1930 he became production manager at Fox, and the following year he became assistant to Fox's vice president. Between 1934 and 1946 he was responsible as a film producer for 14 films in the Charlie Chan film series. He also produced two Mr. Moto films with Peter Lorre .

John Stone has been married twice. He was the father of screenwriter Peter Stone .
