Sir John Stradling († around January 1435 ) was an English nobleman. He founded a branch line of the Stradling family in south-west England.

John Stradling came from the Stradling family, a gentry family from Glamorgan . He was the second son of Sir William Stradling and his wife Isabel St Barbe . His father probably died before 1407, after which his older brother Edward Stradling inherited most of the family estates. Before July 1417 , John married Joan , the widow of Maurice Russell († 1416) from Dorset . Since Russell had been a crown vassal , Stradling should have obtained the king's permission before marriage, which he had not done. As a result, he was sentenced to pay a heavy fine of 40 marks in 1418 . His wife was also the heir of her brother Walter Dauntesey and brought his Wiltshire possessions into the marriage. In addition, his wife owned land in Wiltshire, Somerset , Dorset and Gloucestershire as her lifelong Wittum . From his own family John received the estate of Colwinston in the South Welsh dominion of Ogmore , which he left in 1430 to his younger brother William .

In 1417 Stradling belonged like other Welsh nobles to the army of Richard Beauchamp, Lord of Abergavenny , with whom he moved to northern France during the Hundred Years War . In 1423 and 1425 Stradling served as sheriff of Glamorgan, apparently in the service of the Welsh diocese of Llandaff . Apparently he did not hold any other higher offices. With his wife, Stradling had at least one son who became his heir:

  • Edmund Stradling (around 1429–1461) ⚭ Elizabeth Arundell

After his death, Stradling's wife was third married to John Dewale . She died around 1455 and was buried with her third husband in St James Parish Church in Dauntsey . Stradling's son sold his holdings in Glamorgan around 1452 and concentrated on his holdings in south-west England. He married a daughter of Sir Renfrew Arundell and served as Sheriff of Wiltshire from 1452 to 1453.
