At the beginning of his sports career, Teller was an alpine ski racer . From January 1999 he took part in FIS races , from February 2002 in the Nor-Am Cup . Apart from three victories in FIS races, there were no notable successes, which is why he contested his last alpine race in April 2006. He continued to work as a car mechanic and enjoyed the freestyle discipline of ski cross.
On January 19, 2009 Teller made his debut in Lake Placid in the Freestyle World Cup , but did not get past 53rd place. In the further course of his first season he won no World Cup points, nor at the beginning of the 2009/10 season. His first countable result was a 20th place on January 24, 2010 in Lake Placid. Teller's breakthrough to the top of the world came in the 2010/11 season. After finishing third in Innichen on December 19, 2010 , he won three weeks later in St. Johann in Tirol . At the end of January he won the gold medal at the X Games in Aspen , and in early February he was fifth at the 2011 World Cup .
In the winter of 2011/12, Teller took second place twice in World Cup races. After a cautious start to the season, he celebrated his second World Cup victory on January 15, 2013 in Megève . He won the bronze medal at the 2013 World Cup in Voss .
