John Theyer
John Theyer (* 1597 in Brockworth , Gloucestershire , † August 25, 1673 in Cooper's Hill) was an English lawyer , writer , antiquarian and bibliophile .
Life
Theyer's father of the same name died in 1631; his grandfather, Thomas Theyer von Brockworth, was born in 1597.
He attended Magdalen College , Oxford from the age of about sixteen , but did not graduate.
In 1643 he served in the army of King Charles I and presented a copy of his work Aerio Mastix, or a Vindication of the Apostolicall and generally received Government of the Church of Christ by Bishops at Merton College . The title refers to the theologian and priest Aerius von Pontus . The book was a controversial contribution to episcopalism .
Theyer also began A Friendly Debate between Protestants and Papists ( German "a friendly debate between Protestants and Papists" ), but did not complete the work during his lifetime.
He married Susan Theyer in 1628 and had a son with her.
Theyer died on August 25, 1673 and was buried on August 28 in Brockworth Cemetery. Theyer Richard Hart bequeathed his valuable library of manuscripts.
