Life

Judith Krantz grew up in New York City. She attended Birch Wathen Lenox School and later studied at Wellesley College . After graduating in 1948, she moved to Paris, where she worked in public relations for the fashion industry. After a year, however, she returned to the USA and from then on worked as a journalist for Good Housekeeping . On July 4, 1953, she met her future husband, film producer Steve Krantz , at a party held by her high school friend Barbara Walters . The couple married only six months later, on February 19, 1954. The couple later had three children together and Krantz decided to give up her journalistic career in favor of the children and from then on only wrote occasionally as a freelance writer for magazines such as Maclean’s , McCall’s , Ladies 'Home Journal and Cosmopolitan , including her best-known article, The Myth of the Multiple Orgasm .

When her husband took flight lessons in 1976, Krantz accompanied him. In doing so, she overcame her fear of flying and decided to overcome other fears as well, including writing a novel. Nine months after the decision, Scruples was her first novel and in 1978 it was published for the first time. The book later reached # 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. This has allowed her second novel for 5 million US dollars US dollars to sell and later the paperback rights for a further 3.2 million. Princess Daisy and the following two novels also landed at number one on the bestseller list. In total, over 80 million copies of her books have been sold worldwide in over 50 languages. Her first six novels and Torch Song each served as a template for a film adaptation or television series in which her husband acted as a producer.
