Rainer Behrends (born October 11, 1951 in Hanover ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .

Career

player

The former youth national player played from 1972 to 1974 at OSV Hannover in the second-rate Regionalliga Nord . For the OSV Behrends came to 60 missions in which he scored 8 goals. He then moved to VfL Wolfsburg , with whom he was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga after the 1974/75 season. Behrends then returned to Hanover and joined the Arminia , for which he ran up until 1981. Overall, Behrends came to 139 games in the 2nd Bundesliga , Season North, in which he scored 23 goals.

Trainer

In 1986 Rainer Behrends took over the district league team Sportfreunde Ricklingen . He led the club from the south of Hanover until he left in 1996 in the then third-class Regionalliga Nord. He also led his team to victory in the Lower Saxony Cup in 1992 and 1993 . In 1996 Behrends returned to Arminia and led the team to promotion to the regional league. After returning to Ricklingen in the meantime, he took over Hannoversche SC in January 2010 . Under his leadership, the club rose to the Lower Saxony Oberliga in 2016. Since 2017 he has been a trainer at the regional division TUS Wettbergen.

National team

As a 15-year-old, he played three international student games for Sportfreunde Ricklingen alongside Uli Hoeneß . On April 22, 1967 there was a 6-0 win against England in Berlin, two days later in Saarbrücken the game ended goalless. In Schweinfurt on May 20, 1967, Holland also won 6-0. In preparation for the 1969 UEFA youth tournament in the GDR, Behrends was used on September 22, 1968 in Augsburg against Yugoslavia (1: 4) in the A youth national team. Other players included: Bernd Schrage, Rolf Rüssmann , Paul Breitner , Klaus Scheer and again Uli Hoeneß.
