Rainer Behrends (Curator)

Rainer Behrends (* 1937 in Leipzig ) is a German art historian .

Life

From 1958 to 1961, Behrends studied art history and classical archeology, with a minor in prehistory and early history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . From 1960 to 1966 he worked first as a research assistant and then as deputy director at the Angermuseum in Erfurt. From 1966 to 1972 Behrends worked at the Art History Institute of the University of Leipzig. From 1971 to 2002 he was curator and head of the university art collections, which from 1977 onwards are referred to as custody / art collection of the University of Leipzig . In this capacity, he campaigned for the preservation of the outsourced parts of the interior of the St. Pauli University Church, which was blown up in 1968 . He published numerous specialist articles and catalog texts and is a member of the Advisory Board for Fine Arts of the Free State of Saxony.
