John Truscott
John Edward Truscott AO (born February 23, 1936 in Melbourne , Victoria , Australia ; † September 5, 1993 ibid) was an Australian actor , costume and set designer who was featured at the 1968 Academy Awards for the film Camelot - At the court of King Arthur (1967 ) won both the Oscar for Best Costume Design and the Oscar for Best Production Design .
Life
Truscott was known for his enormous talent as a costume and set designer, but also for the enormous costs of his designs, so that he only worked on the scene and costume equipment for two films: For the musical film Camelot - At the court of King Arthur by Joshua Logan, with Richard Harris , Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero in the leading roles , won the Oscar for best costume design on the one hand and the Oscar for best production design on the other with Edward Carrere and John Brown . The second film he worked on as a costume and set designer was the western musical Westwärts sucht der Wind (1969), also directed by Joshua Logan with Lee Marvin , Clint Eastwood and Jean Seberg .
He began working as an actor in the mid-1970s, but only worked in five films and TV series: Victorian Scandals (1976, TV series), I, Claudius (1976, TV series), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Play For Today (1977), Taxandria (1994), and The sleeping dictionary (2003).
For his services to the arts, especially in the field of theater and film design, he was appointed officer of the Order of Australia on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II's birthday in 1985 .
