John Van Ryn (born June 30, 1905 in Newport News , Virginia - † August 7, 1999 ) was an American tennis player .

biography

Van Ryn won at the beginning of the 1930s three times in a row at Wimbledon (1929-1931), once the French and once the American championships (both 1931). His most successful year was in 1931, when he won three of four Grand Slam tournaments in doubles. Van Ryn's double partners in these successes were George Lott twice and Wilmer Allison three times , both US Americans.

He played 32 games for the US Davis Cup team and won 29 of them. In 1963 he was accepted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .

Van Ryn was the husband of tennis player Marjorie Van Ryn .
