Wilmer Lawson Allison junior (born December 8, 1904 in San Antonio , Texas , † April 20, 1977 in Austin , Texas) was an American tennis player .
biography
He was the best American tennis player in the mid-1930s and won the 1935 American Championships in Forest Hills as the greatest triumph of his career , when he won Fred Perry 7: 5, 6: 3 and 6: 3 in the semifinals and Sidney Wood 6: 2 in the final , 6-2, 6-3 defeated. In doubles, he was able to secure the first tournament victory of the US National Championships as early as 1931, when he won against Berkeley Bell and Gregory Mangin in three sets alongside John Van Ryn . In 1935 Allison was able to look forward to the double title in Forest Hills again.
At Wimbledon he lost the final to Bill Tilden in 1930 . In doubles, he won here with Johnny Van Ryn in 1929 and 1930.
In the Davis Cup he won 32 matches, but he never won the cup. In 1963 he was accepted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
