John Doeg
John Thomas Godfray Hope Doeg (born December 7, 1908 in Guaymas , Sonora , Mexico , † April 27, 1978 in Redding , California ) was an American tennis player .
Career
Doeg won the US Open in Forest Hills in 1930 after beating tennis legend Bill Tilden in the semifinals . In 1929 and 1930 he won the men's doubles together with George Lott at the US Open . In 1930 he was together with Lott in the double finals at Wimbledon , but lost there to Wilmer Allison and John Van Ryn .
Doeg was left-handed and a specialist in serve and volley . He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1962.
