John Wake, 1st Baron Wake
John Wake, 1st Baron Wake (* 1268 - † around April 10, 1300 ) was an English nobleman.
He was a son of Baldwin Wake , lord of Liddel Strength in Cumbria , and of Hawise de Quincy. His father had died in 1282, and his father's inheritance was administered by Edmund, 2nd Earl of Cornwall , until John's legal age .
Between 1288 and 1297 Wake served in Gascony in southwest France, which was then owned by the English king . On June 24, 1295 he was raised by writ to Baron Wake , of Liddell, and appointed to Parliament . In 1297 he served as a captain in the Scottish Marches in Cumberland and Westmorland and took part in the campaigns during the First Scottish War of Independence . In 1298 he fought in the Battle of Falkirk .
Before September 24, 1291, he married Joan, who was believed to be the daughter of Sir John Fitzbernard from Kingsdown in Kent , according to other sources, his wife is said to have been a daughter of Sir William de Fiennes and Blanche de Brienne, Dame de La Loupelande . He and his wife had at least three children:
