John Westbrook Hornbeck

John Westbrook Hornbeck (born January 24, 1804 in Montague , Sussex County , New Jersey , †  January 16, 1848 in Allentown , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . In 1847 and 1848 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Hornbeck attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1827 Union College in Schenectady ( New York ). After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1829, he began to work in this profession from 1830 in Allentown. Between 1836 and 1839 he was the assistant district attorney in Lehigh County . Politically, he became a member of the Whig Party .

In the congressional election of 1846 Hornbeck was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Jacob Erdman on March 4, 1847 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on January 16, 1848. During his time as a Member of Parliament, he chaired the Committee on Revisal and Unfinished Business . His tenure was also marked by the events of the Mexican-American War .
