Johnny David Damon (born November 5, 1973 in Fort Riley , Kansas ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball .

biography

Johnny Damon was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 1992 Amateur Draft . The outfielder played his first game in the major league team of the Royals on August 12, 1995. With the Royals he played until 2000, the 2001 season he spent with the Oakland Athletics . He celebrated his greatest successes to date with the Boston Red Sox , whose jersey he wore from 2002 to 2005. On June 27, 2003 he had three basehits in one inning in the 25-8 win against the Florida Marlins . In 2004 he was even able to win the World Series with the Red Sox against the St. Louis Cardinals , the Red Sox ended a waiting period of almost 90 years since their last World Series title. Damon was mainly used as a lead-off hitter this season, he had a batting average of 30.4%, 20  home runs and 94 RBIs. In 2005 he reached the playoffs again with the Red Sox, but lost to the Chicago White Sox in the American League Divisional Series.

On December 20, 2005, Damon signed a four-year contract with the New York Yankees worth $ 52 million. He represented the USA at the 2006 World Baseball Classic .
