Johnny García López (born July 19, 1978 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ) is a retired Mexican football player who started his career in midfield and started playing in defense in the summer of 2003 .

Life

García comes from the youth division of his home club CD Chivas Guadalajara and began his professional career in its branch team CD Tapatío , which was playing in the second division at the time .

After García was promoted to the first team, he made his debut in the Mexican Primera División in a January 6, 2001 match between the Freseros de Irapuato and his Chivasi, which ended goalless. He scored his first goal in the Primera División on March 3, 2001 in Guadalajara's 3-2 defeat at Atlético Celaya .

After a five-and-a-half year engagement with Chivas Guadalajara, he moved to its US branch team CD Chivas USA in the summer of 2006 , where he only played two games. After a few months he returned to Mexico and signed a contract with the Jaguares de Chiapas for the Clausura in 2007 , before moving to Santos Laguna six months later , with whom he was under contract until the end of his active career in late 2009 and with them he won the championship title of Clausura in 2008 .

García scored his only goal for Santos in the quarter-finals of the Liguilla of Apertura in 2007 in a 3-2 win against Monarcas Morelia , which (after a 2-0 first leg win) secured the semi-finals.

García played his last game in the Primera División on November 15, 2009, the last matchday of the Apertura 2009 points round , against Club America (1-1).
