Johnny Haymer

Johnny Haymer (born January 19, 1920 in St. Louis , Missouri , † November 18, 1989 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor , who was particularly famous for his role as Staff Sergeant Zelmo Zale in the television series M * A * S * H became known.

Haymer began his career as a comedian and musical actor. Among other things, he was seen and heard in the Broadway musical New Faces of '56 . Haymer had his first television role in 1956 in an episode of Woody Allen's Stanley series . His first film role was that of Sgt.Pozallo in The Secret War of Harry Frigg in 1968 . From the 1960s onwards, he was best known as an actor in American TV series, in which he appeared more than 100 times in supporting roles, including Spaceship Enterprise , Cagney & Lacey and A Cage Full of Heroes . From 1974, he starred in the series M * A * S * H in 20 episodes to Staff Sergeant Zale . Later was also seen as a moderator of game shows and TV comedians (e.g. in the Steve Allen Show ). He received a Clio Award for a commercial for breakfast cereal .

Haymer was married and had two sons and a daughter with his wife, Helen. In 1989 he died of complications from cancer and was buried in the Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
