Johnny Mathis (country singer)

"Country" Johnny Mathis (born September 28, 1933 in Maud , Texas , † September 27, 2011 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was an American country singer and composer. He was given the nickname Country in order not to be confused with the pop singer Johnny Mathis .

Career

Johnny Mathis started his career on the radio show Louisiana Hayride , a short time later he became a member of the duo Jimmy and Johnny alongside his friend Jimmy Lee Fautheree . The Capitol Records they got a record deal, their biggest hit they had in 1954 with not If You Do, Somebody Else Will . Mathis was also a member of other radio shows such as the Big D Jamboree , the Liberty Jamboree or the EZ Hoedown in New Orleans. In the mid-1950s, Mathis left the duo and started his solo career. In the following time he recorded numerous, albeit insignificant, records for various labels. As a songwriter, Mathis was far more successful; his tracks have been recorded by successful country musicians such as George Jones , Johnny Paycheck and Webb Pierce . Mathis was last placed in the chart in the 1960s.

Since 1999, Johnny Mathis had withdrawn from the public due to a severe stroke. His son John also started a career as a composer and country musician.
