Johnny Pritchett (born February 15, 1943 in Bingham , Nottinghamshire ) is a retired English boxer .
Career
Amateur career
Johnny Pritchett started boxing as a teenager in his hometown of Bingham. He also became a member of the Bingham & District ABC (amateur boxing club) . In 1959 he was British Junior Champion (ABAE National Championships). In the seniors, he won this title for the first time in 1962. He defeated in the final of the welterweight Harry Dean, Oxford YMCA, on points. On November 1, 1962, he represented the colors of England in London in an international battle against the Soviet Union . In the welterweight division he lost to Viktor Ageev on points. From November 22, 1962 to December 1, 1962, he started at the British Empire & Commonwealth Games in Perth . He won in Perth over Joe Darkey, Ghana , on points and defeated Albert Turmel, JRS, by KO in the 2nd round. In the final battle he was defeated by the New Zealander Wally Coe just on points.
In the spring of 1963 he was three times in the English squadron in international matches. On January 10, 1963 he won in Glasgow over James Malcolm from Scotland on points, on January 31, 1963 he won in London over C. Rice from Ireland on points and on February 7, 1963 he won in Copenhagen over Walter Hansen, Denmark , on points. He then became British champion for the second time. In the final of the welterweight he won it over Ralph Charles, West Ham ABC, on points. In May 1963 he also started at the European Championships in Moscow in the light middleweight division. He won there in the first round over Tommy Joyce from Ireland, but was unable to compete in the quarterfinals against Andrew Wyper from Scotland due to injury. He finished 5th.

Profile career
Johnny Pritchett became a professional boxer in the summer of 1963. His domicile was Bingham. He always started in the middleweight division and played many of his fights in the Nottingham Ice Stadium. He played his first fight on November 12, 1963 at Wembley and came to a technical knockout victory in the 2nd round over his compatriot Les Ferdinand.
After that, Johnny Pritchett remained undefeated in another 32 fights in a row. He recorded 31 wins and 1 draw.
On November 8, 1965 he was in Nottingham with a technical knockout victory in the 12th round over Wally Swift from Nottingham British middleweight champion. On January 31, 1966, he won in Manchester for the first time over a strong boxer from the European continent, Fabio Bettini from France , on points. On March 21, 1966, he defended his British championship title in Nottingham with a technical knockout victory in the 13th round over Nate Jacobs. On February 20, 1967, he defended this title in Nottingham with a points win after 15 rounds over Wally Swift again.
On April 24, 1967, Johnny Pritchett boxed in Nottinham in a non-title fight against Milo Calhoun. It was his 26th fight as a pro and the first one he didn't win. On October 19, 1967, he fought in Manchester against Milo Calhoun for the British title and the title of the Commonwealth. This time he defeated Milo Calhoun by technical knockout in the 8th round. On December 5, 1967, in Kensington, he beat the American Wilbert McClure , who had become Olympic champion in the light middleweight division in 1960 as an amateur boxer, but never quite reached the top of the world as a professional boxer, over 10 rounds on points.
On February 26, 1968 Johnny Pritchett successfully defended the British and Commonwealth Championship in Nottingham with a points win after 15 rounds over Les McAteer . On February 20, 1969, he then boxed in Milan against the Italian naturalized Argentine Carlo Duran (Juan Carlos Duran) for the European middleweight title. In the rather rough fight, Johnny Pritchett was disqualified in the 13th round for head butting.
Although he was only 26 years old, he never went back to the boxing ring as a fighter. He became a boxing trainer and worked for many years as a successful manager of professional boxers and as a promoter (organizer) of professional boxing matches in England.
