Jon Beshay

Jonathan "Jon" Beshay (* around 1987 ) is an American jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Beshay received private lessons from Jack Wagner during his school days. He graduated from Michigan State University ; before graduation in 2011 he won the prize of 2010 with his sextet Downbeat as Outstanding Performing Group in the group of under-graduate. He then worked in the New York jazz scene for two years in the band of Winard Harper , for whom he also acted as musical director. In the following years he played a. a. with Delfeayo Marsalis in New Orleans, with Anthony Wonsey as well as in the Fat Cat Big Band and the Jason Marshall Big Band. In 2017 he released the album The Jon Beshay Trio (with George DeLancey and Quincy Phillips) under his own name , on which he interprets standards such as “ There Will Never Be Another You ” and “Scrapple from the Apple”; in the same year recordings were made with Gregory Generet / Richard Johnson ( 2 of a Kind ). Currently (2019) Beshay leads a quartet that includes Davis Whitfield (piano), George DeLancey (bass) and Jay Sawyer (or Charles Goold , drums).
