Charles Goold

Charles K. Goold (* around 1990 in New York City ) is an American modern jazz musician ( drums ) .

Charles Goold is a son of saxophonist Charles "Ned" Goold , who played in the bands of Harry Connick Jr , Jack McDuff and Vernel Fournier . He attended Rutherford High School and began to learn to play the drums. At the age of 11 he began to perform in public; he had his first gig at Arturo's Italian Restaurant with pianist Harry Whitaker . At the age of 14 he played for the first time with his father in jazz clubs such as the Smalls ( March of the Malcontents , 2005) and received lessons from drummers such as Leroy Williams , Jimmy Lovelace , Jimmy Wormworth and Billy Kaye .

Goold first studied communication science at Temple University and then decided to study as a musician. After a semester at Berklee College of Music , he studied at New York's Juilliard School . During his studies he continued to perform in New York, a. a. with Jon Hendricks , the Cab Calloway Orchestra ( Ghost Band ), Tony Bennett , Andy Bey and Steve Nelson . Recordings were made from 2013 with musicians such as Johnny O'Neal , the JC Hopkins Biggish Band , Timothy Lee Miller, Jamale Davis, Sacha Perry and with the formation The Flail (with Stephan Moutot , Dan Blankinship , Reid Taylor , Brian Marsella ). He currently leads the band NuBopCity! , which includes Steve Nelson, Andrew Renfroe , Ned Goold and Noah Jackson (bass); He also plays in the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis , Chicago 3 +2 with Dave Schumacher , the Steve Nelson Quartet, the Luke Sellick Quartet and the Ned Goold Quartet.
