Jon Horton

Jon M. Horton (born December 26,  1964 in Tucson ) is a retired American football player .

career

Horton played at Sunnyside High School in the state of Arizona , then the wide receiver was part  of the college team of the University of Arizona from 1982 to 1986 .

As a professional football player, he was in 1987 with the British Columbia Lions in the Canadian league CFL  under contract before he was removed from the squad there in late October 1987. He was temporarily employed as a basketball player in Mexico . In 1991, the 1.85 meter tall Horton played for the London Monarchs in the World League of American Football and won the World Bowl with the team in June 1991 . Later in the summer of 1991 he was in training camp with the NFL team Phoenix Cardinals , then disappeared for a short time without a trace.

In 1995 he was in the service of the Hanau Hawks in the football Bundesliga, in the run-up to the 1996 season he moved within the league to the Braunschweig Lions . He played for Lower Saxony until the end of the 1999 season and won the German championship with them in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and the Eurobowl in 1999 . Horton had 94 touchdowns for Braunschweig and set a club record with 1951 yards of space gained from passing catches.

In the 2000 season, Horton played for the Cologne Crocodiles . He won the German championship with Cologne and then went back to his home country.

In 2005 he returned to the Braunschweig Lions and attended coach Kent Anderson . In October 2005 he took over the position of head coach at the fourth division club Cologne Chargers . In 2007 he was the player- coach of the Maastricht Wildcats in the first Dutch league and was national champion with the team. In August 2008, the Alphen Eagles (also Netherlands) announced Horton's signing as head coach. He later worked  as a fitness trainer in Utrecht .

In 2012 Horton was inducted into the Braunschweig Lions Hall of Fame .
