Jonas Biržiškis
Jonas Biržiškis (born April 12, 1932 in Bagdonai , Wolost Kaltinėnai , now the Rajongemeinde Šilalė ) is a Lithuanian civil engineer and politician .
Life
Jonas Biržiškis studied at the Šilalė grammar school . In 1949 his family was deported to Bodaib ( Irkutsk Oblast ). In 1958 he graduated from the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in Irkutsk and received his doctorate in 1978. From 1958 to 1990 Biržiškis worked as a civil engineer , from 1964 to 1965 taught at the Vilniaus universitetas , from 1988 to 1994 at the Civil Engineering Institute in Vilnius , from 1989 to 1990 at the Politechnikos institutas in Kaunas , from 1993 lecturer. From 1990 to 1996 he was Lithuania's transport minister in the Cabinet Vagnorius I , Lubys , Šleževičius and Cabinet Stankevičius , and from 2000 to 2006 General Director of “ Lietuvos ležinkeliai ”.
From 1997 to 2000 Biržiškis was president of the association “Lietuvos keliai”.
