from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jonas Eisinger ( September 15, 1844 in Merchingen - June 4, 1914 in Stebbach ) was a council clerk in Stebbach and was made an honorary citizen there in 1912 . However, his honorary citizenship was posthumously revoked in 1936 because of his Jewish faith.

Life

Jonas Eisinger was born as the son of Pfeiffer and Rösle Eisinger. In the 1860s he accepted the position of rabbi for the Stebbach Jewish community . In this small Jewish community he was both prayer leader and teacher of the Jewish children. In the middle of the 19th century Stebbach had about 880 inhabitants, of which about 13% were Jewish.

In 1872 Jonas Eisinger was appointed councilor for the community of Stebbach, an independent village in the Eppingen district office . Jonas Eisinger married Jette geb. Eisemann (born August 6, 1854, † September 7, 1924), who came from a Jewish family that had been living in Stebbach for a long time. The children Bernhard (* 1877) and Elsa (* 1879) came from this marriage. After 40 years of service, Jonas Eisinger was retired in 1912 and was made an honorary citizen by Stebbach for his great services to the community . During the time of National Socialism , this was officially withdrawn from him in 1936 due to his Jewish faith, although he had already died in 1914. Jonas Eisinger was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Eppingen .

progeny

His son Bernhard settled in Marseille around 1900 and built up a grain trading company that soon had global business relationships. Bernhard Eisinger was with Alice, geb. Siegel, married from Mulhouse in Alsace . From this marriage came Roger (1913–1992) and Eliane (* 1916).

Roger Eisinger, the grandson of Stebbach's honorary citizen Jonas Eisinger, lived as a writer in Marseille after he had given up his work as a grain dealer in the 1960s. He wrote poetry and plays under the pseudonym Emmanuel Eydoux .
