Jonathan Feldman

Jonathan Feldman (born June 13, 1952 ) is an American pianist and music teacher.

Feldman studied with Irwin Freundlich , Dorothy Taubman and Rosetta Goodkind at the Juilliard School , where he taught piano accompaniment from 1989 and headed the Collaborative Piano Department from 1991 to 2015 . Since 2005 he has also been Director of Collaborative Piano at the Music Academy of the West . He has been teaching at the New England Conservatory since 2011 . He also gave master classes in the USA and the Far East as well as courses at international festivals and competitions.

As a chamber musician and piano accompanist, Feldman has worked with Nathan Milstein , Itzhak Perlman , Gil Shaham , James Galway , Sarah Chang and Joshua Bell , among others . He forms the Zephyr Trio with the cellist Darrett Adkins and the flautist Jeanne Galway . As an orchestral musician, he has performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble and the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center in New York City. His appearance on Gil Shaham's Live From Lincoln Center program was broadcast on the Public Broadcasting Service . He has made recordings for the labels EMI, Cala, Columbia, Naxos, Nonesuch, RCA, and Summit, among others with his wife, the bassoonist Judith LeClair , and the flutist Robert Langevin . He can also be heard on the soundtracks of Music of the Heart (with Meryl Streep ) and The Man Who Wasn't There by the Coen Brothers .
