Jonathan Mostow (born November 28, 1961 in Woodbridge , Connecticut ) is an American director , producer and screenwriter .

biography

Jonathan Mostow made his first short films and documentaries while studying at Harvard University . Initially, he financed himself through video clips and advertising films . After moving to Los Angeles , he made his first feature film in 1989 . The horror film Fleet Boys on the Zombie Hunt did not make it to the cinema, but was only released on video. After completing the television film, codenamed Black Angel in 1991, a mixture of Taxi Driver and Top Gun , he paused until 1997. Michael Eisner from Paramount Pictures became aware of the young talent, who got a lot out of small budgets. The film studio hired Mostow as a screenwriter and director and entrusted him with the production of the high-budget thriller Breakdown with Kurt Russell . Mostow fulfilled the high expectations and made large sums of money with the film. In the same function, he led the 2000 war film U-571, which received an Oscar for best sound editing , to Universal Pictures . In 2003, Mostow filmed Terminator 3 , the third installment in the Terminator series.

Mostow is essentially of the opinion that the film Das Boot is based on a lie and that the German submarine crew was portrayed far too humanly. One result of this statement is the plot of his film U-571 , in which all Germans are portrayed, partly human, but mainly as clichéd and evil.
