Jonathan Wale (born June 15, 1991 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish cyclist who competes in races on the track .

Athletic career

Jonathan Wale started for the independent team KGF that had formed around Harry and Charlie Tanfield . In 2017 he became the British team pursuit champion with Charlie Tanfield, Jacob Tipper and Daniel Bigham . The success came as a surprise as the athletes were not part of British Cycling's Olympic track program.

In 2018 Wale took part in the Commonwealth Games in Australia and finished fifth in the 1000-meter time trial . In the same year he won two races in the team pursuit at track cycling world cups . In 2019 he was once again British champion in the team pursuit with John Archibald , Charlie Tanfield and Daniel Bigham.

Professional

Jonathan Wale studies psychology at Loughborough University (as of 2018). He himself suffers from bipolar disorder . The Edinburgh Evenings News described him as "maverick's maverick" ("loner of the loner").
