The Jones Peninsula is an icy peninsula in the northwest of Thurston Island off the Eights coast of West Antarctica Ellsworthland . It is located 8 km west of the Hughes Peninsula .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Robert H. Jones, who as navigator and second pilot of a Martin PBM Mariner in the US-American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) took part in the creation of aerial photographs of this peninsula and the surrounding stretches of coast of the Thurston Island was involved.
