Volker Schlicke (born December 30, 1961 ) is a former German football player who was active in the 1980s for Dynamo Dresden , Sachsenring Zwickau and progress Bischofswerda in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . He is a multiple GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

The youth team from SG Dynamo Dresden, Volker Schlicke, was part of the 1979/80 class of the GDR junior national team. He played eight international junior matches, in which he was usually used as a left winger. At Dynamo Dresden he played in the junior league since 1979 , in which he was called up until the end of 1983. In the 1980/81 season, the 1.76 m tall Schlicke completed his first two point games in the GDR league. In the last two games of the season he was used as a substitute. In 1981/82 he did not play in the league, but in February 1982 he was used in the international match of the GDR youth team against Greece (0: 1), again as a substitute. In the season 1982/83 Schlicke played two more league games on the 11th and 12th matchday, where he mastered the full length of the game on the 11th matchday as a left winger.

After the junior league was discontinued at the end of the 1982/83 season, Dynamo Dresden had no more use for Schlicke and released him to the BSG Sachsenring Zwickau, which had just been relegated from the league. While he only completed four games in the GDR league in 1983/84 (1 goal), he became the Zwickau regular with 28 GDR league games in 34 rounds and two goals in the 1984/85 season. The BSG Sachsenring reached the promotion round to the upper league, in which Schlicke played all eight encounters and thus became a guarantor for promotion. Schlicke defended his regular place in the league season 1985/86. Mainly playing in left midfield, he was used in 21 of the 26 point games, but only scored one goal. Zwickau could not hold the class and played again in the GDR league until 1988.

Schlicke was unable to recover for a long time from an injury suffered on the last day of the league and was only used in seven GDR league games (1 goal) by the end of the 1987/88 season. In 1988 Zwickau managed to return to the league, to which Schlicke had contributed with six games. Although the BSG Sachsenring had nominated him for the league season 1988/89, he was not used. Zwickau rose again after a year from the league, and Schlicke moved to the GDR league team progress Bischofswerda. With his team he was able to celebrate a league promotion again, but had only a marginal share with eleven league appearances and one goal in 34 games played. After Volker Schlicke only had a seven-minute assignment as a substitute in the league season 1989/90, he later no longer appeared in higher-class football.

Today Volker Schlicke lives in Dresden.
