Joost Ruben Ritman (born March 1, 1941 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch entrepreneur and art collector.

Life

Joost Ritman and his brothers inherited their parents' company, Chemische Industrie De Ster, and expanded it into a company that specialized in the manufacture and sale of disposable plastic dishes. He won a number of aviation companies as customers. When the company ran into economic difficulties, it was taken over by the Wallenberg Group in 1988 . Ritman then built up the service company Helios , which later also failed. Both companies later became part of the Gategroup . In 2006 he acquired the Huis met de hoofden cultural monument on the Keizersgracht .

Ritman collects antiquarian books. With his collection of books on hermetics , he and his wife Rachel Ritman founded the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica in Amsterdam in 1984 . The German book antiquarian Heribert Tenschert made more than 100 million marks with him between 1984 and 1992 with manuscripts and incunables. The library's collection was repeatedly drawn into its founder's economic problems and was the subject of seizure orders and distress sales.

Ritman received the Laurens Janszoon Costerprijs in 1995 and the Academy Award of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW) in 2002 and was awarded the Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .
