history

The name Jordan was chosen by the inhabitants in honor of the local saint John the Baptist . According to a local legend, it protected the inhabitants from the Moro uprisings during the Spanish colonial era .

In 1941 the municipality of Nueva Valencia was formed on the territory of the municipality of Jordan . In July 1995 the municipalities of San Lorenzo and Sibunag were formed on the territory of the municipality of Jordan, which reduced the number of barangays from 33 to 14.
