Guimaras is an island province in the Philippines within the Visayas archipelago .
The population of the province is 174,613 (August 1st 2015 census) people who live in an area of 604.6 km². The capital is Jordan and is located in the northwest of the island.
In addition to the main island of Guimaras, the province includes a number of smaller islands in the southeast: the largest is Inampulugan , others are Panobolon , Guiwanon , Natunga and Nadolao . Guimaras used to belong to the neighboring province of Iloilo and was elevated to an independent province on May 22, 1992. In the waters of the province is the Taklong Island National Marine Reserve , it was established in 1990 and is located in the area of the municipality of Nueva Valencia.
The islands of the province lie in the south of the Guimaras Strait between the large Philippine islands of Panay in the north and Negros in the east, and to the south lies the Gulf of Panay .
The province consists of 5 municipalities:
- Jordan in the northwest
- Buenavista in the north
- Nueva Valencia in the southwest
- San Lorenzo to the east
- Sibunag in the southeast
