Jordanita chloronota is a butterfly fromthe ram family (Zygaenidae).

features

The moths reach a forewing length of 12.0 to 13.1 millimeters in the males and 9.0 to 10.0 millimeters in the females. The head and thorax are blackish green and shimmer slightly bluish. The abdomen is blackish gray. The forehead ( frons ) is about twice as wide as the compound eyes . The antennae of the males are long and black and have a bluish shimmer. The antenna shaft is slender at the base and slightly thickens distally . The sensors consist of 43 to 46 segments. The upper side of the forewing is brownish green and has only a weak shimmer. The hind wing is blackish gray and slightly translucent . The undersides of the wings are dark gray. The females are similar to the males, but have narrower wings and more rounded wing tips. The antennae are weakly sawn.

In the males, there is an appendage on the ventral edge of the valve about halfway to the tip. The vinculum is provided with a strongly sclerotized and distally rounded saccus plate. The aedeagus is wider proximally than distally. There are two areas on the everted bladder that are studded with spines. Another small area is provided with tiny triangular needles. The 8th abdominal sternite is trapezoidal and curved laterally. It reaches the rear edge of the segment.

The genital of the female shows no significant differences to the similar species Jordanita chloros (see description there).

Similar species

The similar species Jordanita chloros is smaller, has a stronger greenish tinge and a bluish thorax. It is known that the similar species does not occur sympatric with J. chloronota , as it has not been observed on the south side of the Cilician Taurus. While Jordanita chloros occurs in dry, steppe-like biotopes , J. chloronota inhabits more humid, flower-rich locations. Given the enormous variability of Jordanita chloros , especially in Turkey, it is possible that J. chloronota is only a subspecies of J. chloros , although there are significant differences in the habitus and genitals of the males.

distribution

Jordanita chloronota is native to the south of Turkey on the south side of the Cilician Taurus and inhabits relatively humid meadows rich in flowers.

biology

The moths fly in June. The biology of the species is so far unknown.
