Jorge Cordova (* 23. April 1822 in La Paz , Bolivia ; † 23. October 1861 in Matanza del Loreto , La Paz Department ) was a Bolivian army - officers and the 15th President of his country from 15 August 1855 to September 9 1857.

Jorge Córdova was married to one of the daughters of Bolivian President Manuel Isidoro Belzu and was very close to his father-in-law. Córdova began his military career under General Andrés de Santa Cruz , who was the seventh president of Bolivia from 1829 to 1839. Córdova was involved in the battles of Socabaya , Yanacocha , Yungay and Ingavi . He was the commander of the "El Chorolque" regiment, whose campaigns contributed significantly to the military consolidation of his father-in-law's rule.

In 1855, President Belzu decided to give in to repeated protests against his rule and withdraw from politics, not without letting Cordova support him in the struggle for the presidential succession. Córdova won against his rival José María Linares and was sworn in as president on August 15, 1855 at the age of 33. Córdova continued the political line of his father-in-law, so that he was quickly seen by the general public as governor of Belzu and the protests against the head of government flared up again. These protests were successful in the late summer of 1857, when Córdova was overthrown and fled to Peru while José María Linares took power.

Córdova later returned to Bolivia to actively support the return of his father-in-law to power, but then died in October 1861 at the age of 39 when under the presidency of José María de Achá (1861-1864) the province's military governor La Paz, Plácido Yáñez , murdered dozens of opposition politicians in the " Matanzas de Yáñez " (Yáñez bloodbath).
