Jorge Gabriel Fontenla

Jorge Gabriel Fontenla (* 1950 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine conductor, choir director and music teacher.

Fontenla studied choral conducting at the Conservatorio Provincial Juan José Castro . He has appeared as a guest conductor with various orchestras and youth orchestras in Argentina and France and with soloists such as the violinists Fernando Hasaj , Haydée Francia and Pablo Saraví and the pianists Miguel Angel Estrella , Francisco Votti , Hunberto Catania y Mauricio Guzmán and José Luis Juri .

With the Orquesta de Cámara del Colegio Cardenal Newman , which he founded and directs , Fontenla undertook concert tours through Argentina and in 1987 appeared at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires at the opening of a concert cycle for students organized by the Ministry of Education. In 1989 he founded the Coro Polifónico de la Provincia in Catamarca , which has received several state awards. In 1996 he worked as a guest conductor of the Orquesta Municipal de Córdoba at the invitation of its director Herbert Diehl , whose successor he was the next year. With the orchestra in 1997 he played the Argentine premiere of Pedro Palacios Yugoslavia Ardiendo .

In 1999 Fontenla was appointed professor at the Universidad Nacional de Catamarca , where he founded the Centro de Formación Artística Orquestal y Coral . From 2000 to 2001 he taught orchestral conducting at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán , the following year at the Escuela Superior de Música de Paraná and the Universidad Nacional de La Plata . Together with Oscar Gálvez Vidal , he conducted two series of concerts with the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Avellaneda in 2002/2003 . In 2004 he performed the bandone concert Martín Palmeris with the orchestra .

With the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad Nacional de San Juan , Fontenla played a performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Teatro Roma de Avellaneda in 2005 . The La Bella Música Society commissioned him in 2009 to give a concert in honor of Joseph Haydn at the Teatro Coliseo with the Coro Lagún Onak , the association of teachers of the Teatro Colón Orchestra and renowned soloists.

In 2010 Fontenla was the guest conductor of the Orquesta de Cámara Municipal de La Plata . In the same year he performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica and the Banda Municipal of San Martín in a concert in honor of Leonard Bernstein excerpts from his Westside story and conducted two performances of Beethoven's C major mass .
