José Ángel Gurría
José Ángel Gurría Treviño (born May 8, 1950 in Tampico , Mexico ) has been OECD Secretary General since June 1, 2006 .
Life
Gurría studied economics at UNAM . After receiving his bachelor's degree there, he did a master's degree at the University of Leeds .
From 1994 to 1998 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 1998 to 2000 Minister of Finance of Mexico .
He took part in the negotiations for Mexico's accession to the OECD, which took place in 1994, and in 1999 he headed the OECD Council of Ministers as the responsible minister.
Gurría has received honorary doctorates from the Universidad del Valle de México , the University of Rey Juan Carlos , the private Universidad Europea de Madrid, and from the Universities of Leeds, Haifa and Bratislava.
