José Arechavaleta y Balpardo (born September 27, 1838 in Urioste near Bilbao , Spain , † June 16, 1912 in Montevideo ) was a Spanish-Uruguayan botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Arechav. "; earlier the abbreviation “ Arech. " in use.

Live and act

Arechavaleta settled in Montevideo in 1856. From April 26, 1892, he succeeded Carlos Berg as general director of the Museo de Historia Natural .

Honor

The genus Arechavaletaia Speggazz. has been named after him. Currently, however, the genre has been dissolved; its representatives were sorted into the genus Azara Ruiz & Pav . This genus was formerly in the family Flacourtiaceae , today in the family of the willow family (Salicaceae).
