José Bourguignon

José Bourguignon (* 1929 in Liège ; † 1982 there ) was a Belgian jazz musician ( drums ).

Live and act

Bourguignon began playing drums when he was ten. In the late 1940s he was active in the bebop scene in his hometown. In the 1950s he was part of the trio of guitarist René Thomas . In 1952 the first recordings were made in Brussels with a band around René Thomas, Jacques Pelzer and Hubert Chatelain (“ How High the Moon ”). In March 1956 he was involved in René Thomas' recordings for Polydor in Paris ( Rene Thomas Modern Group , with Bib Monville (tenor saxophone), Roland Ronchaud (piano), Benoît Quersin (bass)).

Bourguignon lived in Canada from 1956 to 1961. In mid-1961 he performed with Bud Powell and Benoît Quersin (" I Remember Clifford "), with the Tete Montoliu Trio (with George Leclerc) and with the René Thomas Trio at the Comblain Jazz Festival in Hamoir -Comblain-La-Tour . In the following years he played a. a. with Martial Solal and Jacques Pelzer before opening a nightclub in Geneva in the mid-1960s . In the early 1970s, he then withdrew from the music scene. In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 1952 and 1961.
