from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

José León Sandoval (* 1789 in Granada (Nicaragua) ; † 1854 ibid) was Supremo Director (Head of State) of Nicaragua from April 4, 1845 to March 12, 1847 .

Life

Sandoval was a member of the Partido Republicano (Conservativo). In 1845 Sandoval was mayor of Managua .

In 1844 Leon was attacked in the Guerra de Malespín by troops from El Salvador under the conservative Francisco Malespín and Granda . Sandoval signed a peace treaty with the governments of Honduras and El Salvador, dictated by José Trinidad Muñoz Fernández . The Partido Republicano allied itself with Salvadoran and Honduran troops and made José León Sandoval Director Supremo . In March 1845, Parliament met at Muy Noble y Leal Villa Fiel de San Fernando de Masaya to get an overview of who would elect José León Sandoval as Director de Estado . During his tenure as Director Supremo , Sandoval decreed that the legislative chambers meet in Masaya, not Leon. On July 24, 1846, Sandoval raised Managua by decree from a village to a city with the name Santiago de Managua . At that time Managua had fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, who settled scattered on the coast of Lake Managua up to Loma de Tiscapa . Due to allegations that Sandoval was badly administered, power was transferred to Senator José María Sanders, who was later replaced by Hermenegildo Zepeda. After the allegations had been clarified, Parliament gave Sandoval power back to him.
