José Mari (born December 10, 1978 in Seville ; real name José María Romero Poyón ) is a Spanish football player who currently plays for Deportivo Xerez .

Career

José Mari was a member of the Spanish national soccer team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . In Italy , he played for AC Milan , after which he was loaned to Atlético Madrid in the 2002/03 season. This was followed by a move to Villarreal CF in the summer of 2003 , where he became a key player. At the Intertoto Cup , José Mari and his team triumphed when they finished third. Jose Mari has been playing for Real Betis Sevilla since summer 2007, where he did not get beyond the role as a supplementary player.

In the 2008/09 season he moved to Gimnàstic de Tarragona and a year later to Deportivo Xerez in the Segunda Division.

At AC Milan , José Mari didn't wear the shirt number 14 as usual, but the number 41 in honor of his idol Johan Cruyff .
