José Urruzmendi , full name Jose Eusebio Urruzmendi , (born August 25, 1944 ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Striker Urruzmendi was a member of the Nacional Montevideo squad in the Primera División from 1961 to 1967 . During this period he made a total of 127 games for the Bolsos , in which he scored 51 goals. With the Montevideans, he completed the 1963 and 1966 seasons as Uruguayan champions. In 1964 he took part in the finals of the Copa Campeones de América , in which Nacional had to hand over the trophy to the Argentinian representative Independiente . Urruzmendi was used in both finals. In 1967 he got with the Bolsos again to the finals for this now renamed Copa Libertadores competition. There Urruzmendi worked in all three games as part of the starting lineup. However, even he could not ultimately avoid the defeat against the Argentinian opponent Racing Club . Then he was under contract with CA Independiente in Argentina in 1968 . He has recorded nine games and two goals in the Primera División Metropolitano Grupo B. In 1969 he returned to Nacional. There are only two games contested by Urruzmendi in that season (one goal). In 1970 he was part of the Defensors team , which was last coached by Alejandro Morales that season . He was only just able to avoid relegation to the "B" with his teammates in the relegation round. Without a precise chronological order, there is also a report on Urruzmendi's career in Venezuela at Estudiantes de Mérida .

National team

Urruzmendi was also a member of the senior team of Uruguay , for which he completed 21 international matches between May 2, 1965 and July 1, 1967. He scored eight international goals. Urruzmendi also took part in the 1966 World Cup with Uruguay . However, coach Ondino Viera did not use his services during the tournament. Finally, Urruzmendi also belonged to the squad of Uruguay selected by Juan Carlos Corazzo at the South American Championship in 1967 , which the Celeste decided in their favor.
