Jos Dupré

Jozef "Jos" Dupré (born July 8, 1928 in Laakdal-Veerle , Antwerp province ) is a former Belgian politician of the Christelijke People's Party (CVP).

Life

Dupré studied after school attendance law and graduated with a Doctor of Law from. After working as a social assistant, he became director of the Antwerp Province Economic Council and director of the De Kempen intercommunal development company . On March 10, 1974 he was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Deputies for the first time and represented the interests of the CVP until June 29, 1996. He was also active in local politics and between 1977 and 1982 he was mayor of Westerlo for the first time .

After briefly serving as Environment Minister in the regional government of Flanders headed by Prime Minister Gaston Geens in 1988, he became State Secretary for Institutional Reforms and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the eighth government of Prime Minister Wilfried Martens on October 18, 1988 and then State Secretary since January 16, 1989 for institutional reforms, small and medium-sized enterprises and the restructuring of public works . He retained this function after the formation of the ninth Martens government from September 29, 1991 to March 7, 1992. In addition, between 1989 and 1996, he was mayor of Westerlo for the second time.

Most recently he was President of the Chamber of Deputies on April 12, 1995 , but handed over this office to Raymond Langendries a few weeks later on June 28, 1995 .

For his political services he was not only made a knight of the Order of the Crown , but also became a Grand Officer of the Order of the Leopold .
