Jose Uzcategui (* 24. December 1990 in Alberto Adriani Municipality , Merida , Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan boxer in the super middleweight division and is managed by Jose Cital trained. He is a former WBO -Latino champion and current interim champion of the IBF .

Professional career

On February 16, 2013 Uzcategui beat Rogelio Medina by unanimous decision over ten rounds. In the same year he defeated Michel Rosales and Francisco Villanueva each with a knockout.

At the end of June 2014, the two-time Russian amateur world champion Matt Korobov brought him his first bankruptcy, Korobov won over 10 rounds unanimously on points. On May 20, 2017 Uzcategui met at MGM National Harbor in the US Oxon Hill on Andre Dirrell . This fight was about the IBF Interim World Championship. The fight turned into a real scandal: When Uzcategui looked up twice after the 8th round (end of the round) Dirrell was badly knocked out Uzcategui was then disqualified and Dirrell emerged as the winner. After this incident, the overall situation inside and outside the boxing ring intensified: Dirrell's trainer Leon Lawson , who is also his uncle, approached Uzcategui and began to riot, completely unexpectedly punching him in the face with his left fist. Anthony Dirrell , Andre Dirrell's brother, had gotten into a stupid, somewhat confusing brawl outside the ring. After these 8 boxed rounds, Uzcategui was in the lead on two points slips (77:74, 77:75), while the other kept the fight balanced until then (76:76).

In the direct rematch, which took place on March 3 of the following year at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn , New York City , Uzcategui left no doubts as to who is the better boxer and knocked Dirrell in the lead (78:74, 79:73, 77:75) on lap 8.
