Jose Yap

Jose V. Yap (born January 16, 1929 - March 2, 2010 ) was a Filipino politician .

Life

After attending school, Yap studied law at Manuel L. Quezon University and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). After his admission to the Philippine Bar Association ( Philippine Bar ) on February 26, 1952, he worked as a lawyer .

Shortly afterwards he began his political career, initially in local politics as mayor of the municipality of Victoria from 1952 to 1955.

Yap was first Undersecretary of State in the Department of General Services in the government of President Diosdado Macapagal in 1963 . He was then from 1964 to 1965 Deputy Governor of the Land Authority of the Philippines.

In 1965 he was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines ( Kapulungán ng mgá Kinatawán ng Pilipinas or Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ), to which he was a member until the imposition of martial law by President Ferdinand Marcos in 1972.

After the end of the Marcos dictatorship he was from 1986 to 1987 administrative director (administrator) of the waterworks and sewage disposal plants of Metro Manila ( Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System ). Between 1987 and 1998 he was again a member of the House of Representatives. He was then governor of Tarlac Province from 1998 to 2007 .

In the elections of May 14, 2007 Yap was again a member of the House of Representatives and represented there as a member of the Lakas CMD ( Lakas-Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats ) the interests of the constituency II Tarlac 2nd District . He became the successor to Benigno Aquino III . In the 14th  Congress , he was vice-chairman of the Dangerous Drugs, National Defense and Security, and Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Committees. As a representative of the parliamentary majority, he was also a member of the committees on agriculture and food, expropriations, land conversion, energy, gambling and amusement, and transport.

After his death on 2 March 2010 his daughter was Susan Yap in the elections on 10 May 2010 to the deputies in the electoral district Tarlac 2nd District . His younger son, Victor Yap , has succeeded Tarlac as governor since 2007, while his older, Jose Yap, Jr., is the mayor of San Jose .
