Josef Abs (Manager)

Josef Abs (born December 6, 1862 in Euskirchen , † May 24, 1943 in Bonn ) was a German manager, lawyer and director.

Professional

After graduation, he studied law and graduated with a doctorate in law. He later established himself as a lawyer.

Abs were given a number of board positions in mining, industrial and insurance companies. He was a member of the board of the lignite company Hubertus, lignite mining in Brüggen an der Erft. He was also a member of the supervisory board of the brown coal and briquette works Roddergrube.

Abs was chairman of the supervisory board of Erft-Bergbau AG until his death. He was also a co-owner of Hubertus Braunkohlen AG .

Abs was deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Rheinische Braunkohlen-Syndikats GmbH .

Abs held numerous other supervisory board mandates, including a. at Phönix AG for brown coal utilization .

Abs was the 2nd deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Selve -Automobilwerke AG in Hameln an der Weser and a member of the supervisory board of Berg-Heckmann-Selve AG in Altena in Westphalia. He was also deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Wessels Wandplatten-Fabrik AG in Bonn and a member of the supervisory board of the Gerling Group Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG and Rhein Feuerversicherungs-AG and Kronprinz Versicherungs-AG in Cologne.

Associations

Abs was also extensively active in association activities, for example as a board member of the employers' associations in the Rheinisches Braunkohlenrevier e. V. as well as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bonn.

family

Josef Abs was the son of a master carpenter from Euskirchen . From his marriage to Katharina, born Lückerath, five sons and one daughter were born. The two oldest sons died in the First World War . The youngest son was the future banker Hermann Josef Abs .
